About the library of Sumy State University

The Sumy State University Library and Information System provides offline and remote online access to electronic educational and scientific resources through the library’s website, as well as the integrated databases of the Electronic Catalog  (hereinafter referred to as EC) and the Sumy State University Repository.

The Sumy State University Library is the best library in the Large Libraries nomination according to the Ukrainian Library Association in 2019.

Since 2014, the Sumy State University Repository has been the leader among university repositories in Ukraine in terms of the number of documents indexed by Google Scholar according to the Webometrics rating.

Sumy State University supports the policy of open access – all works of scientists and qualification works of applicants are placed in the repository and checked for uniqueness of the text by the licensed software Strike Plagiarism.

Own electronic resources

1 thousand materials, including guides on academic writing and integrity, copyright, researcher profiles, selecting a journal for publication, research data management, software, etc.

In 2022, more than 400 news, announcements, and feature stories were added.

650 thousand bibliographic descriptions, 84 thousand full-text documents, 2265 journals.

In 2022, 10 thousand documents were added to the e-version, of which about 1 thousand were in English; articles were published in about 300 journals.

80 thousand documents: articles, abstracts, bachelor’s and master’s theses, dissertations, research reports, books.

In 2020, more than 5 thousand documents were added.

1.5 million copies, of which 567 are openly available in the Sumy State University repository.

Access to international databases and journals

In 2022 the academic community of the University had access to 30 resources, namely with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the European community – Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Bentham Science, Grammarly, Springer Nature, EBSCO, Elsevier Health, AccessMedicine, AccessSurgery, AccessEmergencyMedicine, De Gruyter, Unicheck; online educational platforms Coursera, Udemy, Edx, Physioplus, Emeritus, Labster, Ukraine Global Faculty; world periodicals Granta, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Financial Times, BMJ Publishing Group Ltd; and Strike Plagiarism, which is subscribed by the university.

Such powerful publishers as the Royal Society of Chemistry, Nature, Wiley, Elsevier, Wolters Kluwer, Oxford University Press, Taylor & Francis, IOP, SAGE, 16 Cambridge University Press, Emerald, BioOne, IOS Press and others have expressed their desire to support Ukraine in this difficult time. The university community has access to all these resources through the Research4Life platform.

The Sumy State University Library provides the following services and facilities for students, teachers and researchers:

The list of services has been expanded to 19 services that can be used remotely, including access to the RapidILL interlibrary loan system and book returns by mail in 2022.

Academic texts are reviewed in accordance with the Regulations on Academic Integrity and Ethics of Academic Relations at Sumy State University.

All students take a lecture on information literacy and a 2-module course on academic writing in the 1st year of study, and in the following years, regular trainings on specific topics related to academic writing, research, and dissemination of their results.
